Halloween Spider Web Cookie Cake

What you need

This Halloween spider web cookie cake is a giant chewy chocolate chip cookie with a simple white-chocolate web and candy spiders. It is an easy party dessert that looks dramatic but uses one bowl and a single pan.

For the cookie cake:

  • 170g unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 150g light brown sugar
  • 75g granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 250g plain / all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cornflour / cornstarch
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp fine salt
  • 180g chocolate chips

For decorating:

  • 100g white chocolate, melted
  • Chocolate candies or edible eyes for spiders

Recipe Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 175°C / 350°F. Line a 23 cm (9 in) round cake tin with parchment.
  2. Whisk butter and sugars until glossy. Beat in egg, yolk, and vanilla.
  3. Stir in flour, cornflour, baking soda, and salt. Fold in chocolate chips and press into the tin.
  4. Bake 18–22 minutes until the edges are golden and the centre is just set. Cool fully.
  5. Pipe concentric circles of white chocolate on top, drag a toothpick from the centre outward to make a web, then add candy spiders.

Tips & Variations

  • Pull the cookie cake while the centre is still soft; it firms as it cools.
  • Chill the dough 20 minutes for a thicker, chewier centre.
  • Use a zip-top bag with the corner snipped for an easy web.
