Witch Finger Breadsticks (The Spooky 25-Minute Halloween Snack)

What you need

  • 1 lb (450 g) refrigerated pizza dough, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon (14 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons (10 g) finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 whole almonds (for the fingernails)
  • 1/2 cup (120 g) warm marinara sauce, for dipping (optional)

Recipe Steps

  1. Heat the oven. Preheat to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Shape the fingers. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 5-inch (13 cm) rope, slightly thinner in the middle to suggest a finger shape. Press two shallow dents with your fingertip to make “knuckles”.
  3. Add the nails. Press one almond firmly into the tip of each finger at a slight angle to look like a fingernail.
  4. Brush and season. Mix the olive oil, melted butter, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt. Brush generously over every finger and sprinkle with the Parmesan.
  5. Bake and serve. Bake 12-14 minutes until puffed and deeply golden. Cool 5 minutes, then serve warm with marinara for “blood” dipping.

Tips & Variations

  • Room-temperature dough is key: Cold dough springs back when you roll it — let it rest on the counter 20 minutes first.
  • Extra spooky nails: Dip the tip of each almond in a drop of red food coloring before pressing it on for a “bloody” fingernail (optional — plain almonds look perfectly creepy already).
  • Cheese-stuffed fingers: Tuck a small piece of mozzarella string cheese inside each rope before shaping for a gooey center.
  • Make ahead: Shape and brush the fingers up to 4 hours early, cover, and refrigerate; bake straight from the fridge, adding 1-2 minutes.

Witch Finger Breadsticks

They look like they crawled straight out of a witch's kitchen — golden breadsticks with knobby knuckles and shiny almond 'fingernails', brushed with garlic butter and dusted with Parmesan. Underneath the creepy costume is a seriously addictive snack: soft, chewy inside, crisp at the edges, garlicky and savory, and dangerously dunkable in warm marinara. Just pizza dough, a little shaping magic, and 25 minutes — the Halloween party snack that gets screams AND empty plates.
