Easy Air Fryer Apple Crisp
- Cook Time: 20–25 minutes
What you need
This easy air fryer apple crisp gives you tender cinnamon apples under a buttery oat topping — all in a small dish that fits the basket. It’s the cosy dessert you can make without heating the whole oven: bubbling fruit, golden crunch, and ready for ice cream in about 25 minutes.
For the apple filling:
- 3 medium eating apples (about 450g), peeled if you like, cored and sliced thin
- 2 tbsp soft light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp plain flour (or cornflour)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Pinch of fine salt
For the crisp topping:
- 60g rolled oats
- 50g plain flour
- 50g soft light brown sugar
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of fine salt
- 50g cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 2 tbsp chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
To serve:
- Vanilla ice cream or custard
- Extra cinnamon, to dust
Recipe Steps
- Lightly grease a small air-fryer-safe baking dish (about 15–18 cm) that leaves space around the sides of your basket.
- Toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice and salt. Spread evenly in the dish.
- In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Rub in the cold butter with your fingertips until clumpy (pea-sized bits are perfect). Stir in nuts if using.
- Scatter the topping evenly over the apples — don’t pack it down; loose crumbs crisp better.
- Air-fry at 170 °C for 18–22 minutes until the topping is deep golden and the apples are bubbling at the edges. If the top browns too fast, tent loosely with foil for the last few minutes.
- Rest 5 minutes, then serve warm with ice cream or custard.
Tips & Variations
- Best apples: Braeburn, Granny Smith, or Honeycrisp hold shape; mix sweet + tart for balance.
- Berry boost: Swap 100g apples for frozen berries (no thaw needed).
- Gluten-free: Use certified GF oats and a 1:1 GF flour blend.
- Make ahead: Assemble topping and filling separately; combine and air-fry when ready.
- Oven option: Bake at 180 °C fan for 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbling.
