Why This Recipe Works
- Cornstarch coating = crisp edges — the chicken sears up golden instead of steaming.
- Glaze off the boil — honey warmed, never boiled, keeps its floral sweetness.
- Cool drizzle balance — garlic yogurt cuts the heat and richness perfectly.
- 44 grams of protein — a bowl that actually keeps you full.
Ingredients
Chicken, pantry spices and a little cornstarch for the chicken; honey, hot sauce and chili flakes for the glaze; rice and broccoli for the bowl; yogurt and lemon for the drizzle.

How to Make a Hot Honey Chicken Bowl
- Cook the rice; roast or steam the broccoli.
- Coat the chicken in spices and cornstarch; sear until crisp-edged.
- Warm the hot honey and toss the chicken through it.
- Build the bowls and finish with the garlic-yogurt drizzle.
Tips for the Best Hot Honey Chicken
- Do not crowd the pan — crisp edges need space; cook in two batches if needed.
- Adjust the heat honestly — start with 1 teaspoon of hot sauce and taste before adding more.
- Warm the honey mixture only until runny — boiling makes it bitter and too thick.
- Rotisserie chicken shortcut: toss pre-cooked chicken in the warm glaze for a 10-minute version.
Storage
Store the components separately in the fridge for up to 3 days — keep the drizzle apart. Reheat the chicken in a skillet or air fryer to bring back the crisp edges; microwave the rice with a splash of water.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is hot honey?
Honey infused with chili heat — here it is honey warmed with hot sauce and red pepper flakes. Bottled hot honey works too; use 1/3 cup and skip warming.
Can I make it in the air fryer?
Yes — air fry the coated chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking halfway, then glaze.
What rice is best?
Jasmine is our pick for bowls; brown rice adds fiber and a nuttier bite. Cauliflower rice makes it low-carb.
Is it very spicy?
It is a warm sweet-heat, not a burn. The yogurt drizzle cools every bite; scale the hot sauce to your house.

1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, for the drizzle
