Why This Recipe Works

  • One glossy glaze — the honey-soy sauce thickens in the pan and coats every slice.
  • Balanced bowl — protein, grains and greens in every bite, no extra sides needed.
  • 30 minutes, one skillet for the chicken — the rice and broccoli cook alongside.
  • Meal-prep friendly — the bowls hold up for 4 days of lunches.

Ingredients

Everything is a supermarket staple. The glaze is just soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic and ginger; the drizzle is mayo (or Greek yogurt), sriracha and a touch of honey.

How to Make Sticky Chicken Bowls

  1. Cook the rice; steam the broccoli 3 to 4 minutes until bright green.
  2. Season the chicken and sear 6 to 7 minutes per side; rest and slice.
  3. Simmer the honey-soy glaze in the same pan until glossy; toss the chicken through it.
  4. Mix the sriracha drizzle; build the bowls over rice and finish with sesame and green onions.

Tips for the Best Chicken Bowls

  • Dry chicken sears better — pat it well before seasoning.
  • Slice against the grain so every bite stays tender.
  • Add the glaze off the highest heat — honey burns fast; a gentle simmer keeps it glossy.
  • Greek yogurt in the drizzle cuts the calories and adds tang.

Storage

Store the bowls in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 4 days — keep the drizzle separate until serving. Reheat in the microwave for 2 minutes with a splash of water over the rice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use chicken breast instead of thighs?

Yes. Breasts work well — pound them to an even thickness and pull them at 165°F (74°C) so they stay juicy.

How do I make the bowls spicier?

Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the glaze and an extra teaspoon of sriracha to the drizzle.

Can I swap the rice?

Brown rice, quinoa or cauliflower rice all work. Adjust the cooking time to the package directions.

Is this recipe good for meal prep?

It is one of our best — the chicken stays juicy for days and the broccoli reheats without going soggy if you steam it just to bright green.

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) low-sodium soy sauce

  • 3 tablespoons honey

  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water

  • 1 cup (190 g) jasmine rice, cooked to 3 cups

  • 4 cups (350 g) broccoli florets

  • 1/4 cup (60 g) mayonnaise or Greek yogurt

  • 1 to 2 teaspoons sriracha

  • 1 teaspoon honey, for the drizzle

  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

Directions

  • Cook the rice and steam the broccoli for 3 to 4 minutes until bright green and just tender; set aside and keep warm.
  • Pat the chicken dry and season both sides with the garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken for 6 to 7 minutes per side until golden and cooked through (165°F / 74°C). Rest 5 minutes, then slice.
  • In the same skillet, whisk the soy sauce, 3 tablespoons honey, rice vinegar, garlic and ginger. Simmer 1 minute, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook 30 to 60 seconds until glossy and thick.
  • Return the sliced chicken to the skillet and toss through the sticky glaze until every piece shines.
  • Stir the mayonnaise, sriracha and 1 teaspoon honey together for the drizzle.
  • Build the bowls: rice on the bottom, broccoli and sticky chicken on top. Finish with the drizzle, sesame seeds and green onions.
