Why This Recipe Works

  • One pan, zero sink pile-up — everything roasts together and the parchment goes in the bin.
  • Sweet + smoky contrast — caramelized sweet potato against savory sausage is a proven pairing.
  • High heat, spaced pieces — 425°F and a single layer give roasted edges, not steamed vegetables.
  • Optional honey-mustard glaze — five extra minutes turns it glossy and restaurant-worthy.

Ingredients

Smoked sausage (kielbasa or a lighter chicken sausage), two big sweet potatoes, an onion and a smoky spice blend. That is the whole list — the oven does the rest.

How to Make Sausage & Sweet Potato Bake

  1. Toss sausage, sweet potatoes and onion with oil and spices on the pan.
  2. Spread in a single layer.
  3. Roast 25 to 30 minutes at 425°F (220°C), flipping halfway.
  4. Optional honey-mustard brush for the last 5 minutes; serve with parsley.

Tips for the Best Sheet Pan Bake

  • Cut sweet potatoes in even 3/4-inch cubes so they finish with the sausage.
  • Preheat the pan for extra-caramelized bottoms.
  • Swap in Brussels sprouts or bell peppers for half the onion to change it up.
  • Leftovers reheat beautifully in the air fryer at 375°F for 5 minutes.

Storage

Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Reheat in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 10 minutes to bring the crispy edges back, or microwave for a quick lunch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sausage is healthiest here?

Chicken or turkey smoked sausage cuts the fat nearly in half while keeping the smoky flavor. Kielbasa is the classic, richer choice.

Can I meal prep this?

It is a meal-prep star — portion it over rice or quinoa and refrigerate up to 4 days.

Do the sweet potatoes need peeling?

Peeling gives the cleanest caramelized cubes, but well-scrubbed skins are fine and add fiber.

Can I cook it all in one skillet instead?

Yes — use a large oven-safe skillet the same way. Keep the single layer so everything still roasts.

Smoky sausage chunks, sweet potato cubes and onions roasted together until caramelized and glossy, with an optional honey-mustard finish. A healthy, high-protein one-pan dinner with almost no cleanup.

Ingredients

  • 14 ounces (400 g) smoked sausage (kielbasa or chicken sausage), cut into chunks

  • 2 large sweet potatoes (about 1 3/4 pounds / 800 g), peeled and cut into cubes

  • 1 medium onion, cut into chunks

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning

  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, to serve

Directions

  • Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a large sheet pan with parchment.
  • Toss the sausage, sweet potatoes and onion with the olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, thyme, salt and pepper right on the pan.
  • Spread everything in a single layer with space between the pieces — crowding steams instead of roasts.
  • Roast for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway, until the sweet potatoes are caramelized at the edges and the sausage is browned.
  • Optional finish: whisk the honey and Dijon and brush over everything for the last 5 minutes of roasting for a glossy glaze.
  • Scatter with parsley and serve straight from the pan.
