Why This Recipe Works
- Sweet potatoes > bun — caramelized cubes add sweetness, fiber and staying power.
- The sauce is the real deal — mayo, ketchup, mustard and pickle, just like a burger joint.
- Every topping stays fresh — warm beef over cool, crisp vegetables is the perfect contrast.
- Naturally gluten-free — no swaps or special ingredients needed.
Ingredients
Two large sweet potatoes form the base. The beef is seasoned simply with onion powder and paprika, and the toppings are classic burger fixings — lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and cheddar.

How to Make a Sweet Potato Burger Bowl
- Roast the seasoned sweet potato cubes at 425°F (220°C) for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Brown the ground beef with onion powder and paprika; drain.
- Whisk the 5-ingredient burger sauce.
- Layer the bowls and finish with a generous sauce drizzle.
Tips for the Best Burger Bowls
- Cut sweet potatoes in even cubes so they roast at the same speed.
- Do not crowd the pan — space means caramelized edges, not steamed cubes.
- Warm beef, cold toppings — assemble at the last minute to keep the lettuce crisp.
- Double the sauce — everyone always wants more.
Storage
Store the components separately in the fridge for up to 4 days (sauce up to a week). Reheat the sweet potatoes and beef, then assemble with fresh toppings — perfect for meal prep.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use ground turkey instead of beef?
Absolutely — turkey or chicken both work. Season the same way and cook until no pink remains.
Is this bowl really gluten-free?
Yes, as written — just check your ketchup and mustard labels if you are cooking for celiac disease.
Can I make it dairy-free?
Skip the cheddar or use a dairy-free shred, and choose a vegan mayo for the sauce.
What else can I add?
Avocado, jalapeños, crispy onions or a fried egg all fit the burger theme beautifully.
