Spider Deviled Eggs (The Spooky 25-Minute Halloween Party Appetizer)
Prep: 13 min | Cook: 12 min | Total: 25 min · 24 deviled eggs (12 servings of 2)

Classic creamy deviled eggs, but make them Halloween. Each bite gets a little black-olive spider perched on top — one olive half for the body, eight skinny olive strips for the legs — and suddenly the most old-school party appetizer becomes the spookiest thing on the table, right next to the Mummy Hot Dogs and Witch Finger Breadsticks. The filling is the perfect deviled egg (tangy mustard, a whisper of vinegar, paprika warmth), the spiders take two minutes to build, and kids absolutely lose it over them — especially with a glass of Witches Brew Punch in hand. Twenty-five minutes, one pot, zero tricks — just treats. Round out the party table with Monster Halloween Cookies and a Spooky Spiderweb Pizza.
What You Need
- 12 large eggs
- 1/3 cup (75 g) mayonnaise
- 2 tsp (10 g) yellow mustard
- 1 tsp (5 ml) apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp paprika, plus more for dusting
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 24 pitted black olives (1 per egg half, for the spiders)
- 1 tbsp finely chopped chives, optional, for garnish

How To Make It
- Boil the eggs. Place the eggs in a large pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch (2.5 cm). Bring to a rolling boil over high heat, then cover, remove from the heat, and let stand 12 minutes. Transfer to an ice bath for 5 minutes, then peel under cool running water.
- Halve and separate. Slice each egg in half lengthwise. Gently pop the yolks into a medium bowl and arrange the 24 whites cut-side up on a serving platter.
- Make the filling. Mash the yolks with a fork until no lumps remain. Add the mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper; stir until completely smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust salt.
- Fill the whites. Spoon the yolk mixture back into the egg-white halves, or pipe it with a zip-top bag with the corner snipped for a neater look. A generous tablespoon (about 15 g) per half.
- Build the spiders. For each egg half: cut one black olive in half lengthwise — press one half cut-side down onto the filling for the spider’s body. Slice the other olive half into 8 thin strips and arrange 4 on each side of the body for legs. Dust lightly with paprika and scatter chives if using.
- Chill and serve. Refrigerate 15 minutes so the flavors settle (or serve right away if the party can’t wait).

Tips & Variations
- Easy-peel eggs: Slightly older eggs peel cleaner than farm-fresh ones, and the ice bath is non-negotiable — it stops the cooking and shrinks the egg from the shell.
- Make ahead: Boil and peel the eggs up to 2 days ahead and keep them refrigerated in water. Fill and decorate the day of the party so the spiders look fresh.
- Smoky kick: Swap sweet paprika for smoked paprika and add a dash of hot sauce to the filling.
- Avocado twist: Replace half the mayonnaise with 1/2 mashed ripe avocado plus 1 tsp lime juice for a greener, fresher filling.
- Kid assembly line: Set out the filled eggs and a bowl of olive halves and strips — kids love building their own spiders.
