Why This Recipe Works

  • Fries IN the bowl — crispy potatoes play the bun’s role, only better.
  • The sauce makes it — mayo, ketchup, mustard and pickle juice: the classic burger-joint formula.
  • Hot meets cold — warm beef and fries over crisp lettuce and pickles is the perfect contrast.
  • Everyone builds their own — set out toppings and let the table customize.

Ingredients

Ground beef, russet potatoes for the fries, romaine, dill pickles, cheddar and red onion — plus a five-ingredient sauce you will want on everything.

How to Make Burger Bowls

  1. Roast the seasoned fries until crisp, 25 to 30 minutes.
  2. Brown the beef with onion powder and Worcestershire.
  3. Whisk the burger sauce.
  4. Layer lettuce, fries, beef and toppings; drizzle and serve.

Tips for the Best Burger Bowls

  • Soak cut fries in cold water for 20 minutes for maximum crispness; dry well before roasting.
  • Shred the lettuce thick so it stays crunchy under the warm beef.
  • Melt the cheddar onto the hot beef for 30 seconds before adding cold toppings.
  • Sauce goes on last — and always make extra.

Storage

Store the components separately in the fridge for up to 3 days (the sauce keeps a week). Reheat the fries in a 400°F (200°C) oven or air fryer and the beef in a skillet, then assemble fresh.

Very close — the same creamy, tangy family. Adjust the pickle juice to taste.

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/3 cup (80 g) mayonnaise

  • 1 tablespoon ketchup

  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped pickles, plus 1 teaspoon pickle juice

  • 3 cups (150 g) shredded romaine or iceberg lettuce

  • Meanwhile, brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. Stir in the onion powder, Worcestershire, salt and pepper; drain any excess fat.
  • Whisk the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, chopped pickles and pickle juice into the burger sauce.
  • Build the bowls: lettuce first, then fries and warm beef, then cheddar, pickle slices and red onion.
