Mummy Meatballs (The Spooky 30-Minute Halloween Party Appetizer)

These mummy meatballs are the Halloween appetizer that gets attacked before the candy bowl opens — juicy beef-and-pork meatballs baked until golden, then wrapped in thin strips of dough and baked again so they look like tiny mummies, finished with googly candy eyes. Fifteen minutes of hands-on work, thirty minutes total, and you have 24 spooky bites that taste like the best Italian meatball sub you ever had. Kids go wild rolling the meatballs and wrapping the dough, adults eat them standing up at the party, and the whole tray disappears faster than the trick-or-treaters ring your doorbell. Serve them with Mummy Jalapeño Poppers and Spooky Spiderweb Pizza on the appetizer table, add Bat Wing Chicken Wings to the savory spread, and wash it all down with a mug of Witches Brew Punch.
What You Need
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20)
- 1/2 lb (225 g) ground pork (or use all beef)
- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs (60 g)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan (25 g)
- 1 large egg
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 3/4 teaspoon fine salt + 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (8 oz / 225 g) refrigerated crescent dough (or pizza dough)
- 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon milk, for the wash
- 48 candy eyeballs (2 per mummy)

How To Make It
- Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Mix the beef, pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper with your hands — just until combined, no overmixing. Roll into 24 meatballs, about 1 tablespoon each.
- Arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake 12–14 minutes, until cooked through and lightly browned. Let cool 5 minutes — cool enough to handle, still warm.
- Unroll the crescent dough and cut it into thin strips, about 1/4 inch (6 mm) wide. Wrap 2–3 strips around each meatball in a crisscross mummy pattern, leaving a small gap at the top for the face.
- Brush the wraps lightly with the egg wash and return to the oven for 8–10 minutes, until the dough is puffed and golden.
- Press 2 candy eyes into the face gap of each mummy while the dough is still warm. Serve warm with marinara or ketchup “blood” for dipping.

Tips & Variations
- Wet hands win: damp hands stop the mixture from sticking and roll smooth, round meatballs in seconds.
- Strip thin: thin dough strips look like bandages; thick ones puff into rolls. If strips break, pinch them back together — wonky wraps look MORE haunted.
- Make ahead: bake the meatballs a day ahead and refrigerate; wrap and do the second bake right before the party so they land on the table golden and warm.
- Swap the meat: all beef, turkey + a tablespoon of olive oil for moisture, or plant-based mince all work — keep the total at 1.5 lb (680 g).
- Sauce it: serve over warm marinara in a slow cooker set to “warm” for a self-serve party tray, with the mummies lined up on top.
